WHY ACUPUNCTURE?
Acupuncture has been practiced for a long time, the form I practice being part of Traditional Chinese Medicine. This means there is extensive theory and experience that has been built up and developed over the years, by previous practitioners of Acupuncture and Chinese medicine.
This theory includes all aspects of human experience, as well as our relationship with the world we live in. It can offer a profound model of how we come to experience illness or problems, and how we might be able to move through them.
It is safe and effective, can alleviate symptoms and over time support a gentle balancing of body, energy and mind.
How is it different from other therapies?
Acupuncture has an unusual position within the healthcare therapies that are available today. It seems to have the capacity to affect different levels of a person’s being. For example, adressing physical pains or problems whilst at the same time supporting well-being. The Chinese medical theory does not separate off different aspects of our experience, saying that they don't exist or aren't valid. Rather it aims to see or understand the correlations between all different parts of the whole picture.
It is flexible, in that in can be used in conjunction with other therapies such as chiropractic, osteopathy, physiotherapy, psychotherapy, conventional medicine etc. This is because we always take each person as they come, and seek to apply appropriate treatment according to the time and circumstances.
